We decided to stay a second night in Xincun, so we could relax and spend more time at the beach, rather than scrambling to get to the next town. We took a motorcycle taxi to the beach, and were rather dismayed at the state of it. It was filthy, and there was an old gas station and run down buildings, but we were told to walk a ways down the beach where we would find the swimming section. And so we did, and we came upon some beach huts where people were lounging, barbecuing and swimming in a roped off area. We spent a few hours here. It was great to get back into the ocean. From this beach spot we wandered up a trail that took us to a fancy golf course resort, and we scored a ride back into town with the landscaping team who were just finishing up for the day. Later on, after freshening up at our hotel (cold shower for me!), we walked around, sampled coconuts, checked out the local grocery store. They certainly have a different taste in snacks. We bought some cold beers and snacks, and had a picnic outside the grocery store.

| The gondola goes up to Monkey Island. We chose not to go because it's expensive and my travel guide says they don't treat the monkeys nicely. George would not approve. |
