Spontaneous Supper Stroll

After working at the apartment for most of the day I decided to get outside and walk the streets. I wandered about, trying to get lost down new streets and alleyways, but my sense of direction is way better than I knew! I found a dark alley market and neighbourhood with steep stone walls, fresh seafood and produce and meats. I bought some yummy dumpling and cookie type things that I munched on along the way, and stopped to eat supper at a street vendor style place. The food looked fresh and delicious. You grab a basket, chuck all the stuff in it that you want and they cook it up and throw it in a big bowl for you. All for $3. No kidding. I chose bok choy, two kinds of mushrooms, bean sprouts, some kind of pot sticker things, lotus root, potato slices… mmm… delicious!!

  1. .... and to think we thought you might accidentally order chicken claws and pigeon bits! It's not surprising that it's all very tasty and healthy; I do believe that China has one of the lowest obesity rates in the world.

    1. Haha! No chicken claws for me! I've seen pigeon on menus but I've avoided it…. so far. I won't post photographs of the dog butcher street vendors. They're pretty graphic; skinned dogs hanging upside down with legs and head still intact, and a man standing beside it with a big, round wooden chopping block, hacking away with a cleaver. It's no different than butchering up a cow, it's just that we aren't accustomed to it.

  2. Ew! Thanks for sparing us the gory photographic details. I've (we have all) known and loved too many dogs to even imagine it.
